About the Job:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Controller to join our team at The Baltimore Banner. As a Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing our accounting and financial reporting functions, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements, managing the day-to-day accounting operations, and providing financial analysis and insights to support business decision-making.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and present financial statements, including the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement, in compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
Oversee and complete month-end close.
Assist with creation and management of the organization's budget, working with department managers to establish financial goals, allocate resources, and monitor performance against budgeted targets.
Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger, ensuring that financial transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
Conduct financial analysis to provide insights into the organization's financial performance, analyzing financial data, identifying trends, and making recommendations to improve financial performance.
Ensure that the organization complies with all financial regulations and reporting requirements, staying up to date on changes to accounting standards and regulations, and ensuring that financial reporting is accurate and timely.
Manage the organization's audit process, including coordinating with auditors, providing information and documentation, and ensuring that audit findings are addressed in a timely manner.
Requirements
5+ years of experience in accounting and financial management, including experience in financial reporting, budgeting, accounting operations, financial analysis, and compliance
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA required.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, as well as regulatory requirements and reporting standards
Experience with mid-level accounting software or ERP
Experience working in a multi-entity environment with financial statement consolidation.
Experience using accounts payable automation software
Experience with freelancers and contractors, and the issuance of 1099s
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Highly analytical with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
