Financial Analyst (Payroll)

Our client, The Philadelphia Inquirer, was founded in 1829 and is the third-oldest continually operating daily newspaper in the United States. It was purchased in 2014 by the non-profit Lenfest Institute, which was founded by philanthropist Gerry Lenfest to protect and promote the integrity of journalism – specifically local journalism.

The Philadelphia Inquirer publishes a news website (Inquirer.com) and two daily newspapers (The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News) and has come a long way in terms of modernizing its operations and delivering content across all digital channels. They are currently looking to scale their Finance team and in need of a Payroll Analyst.

The Analyst will work directly with the VP of Finance and the Payroll Manager and be responsible for various payroll and benefits processing, accounting, and reporting functions.

Responsibilities include:
Participate in the weekly payroll processing by loading timekeeping and other files, checking results for accuracy, and maintaining employee records

Be responsible for the administration of the 401k plan payroll contributions, deductions, and payments

Weekly reporting including posting data to the general ledger

Calculate or review employer contributions to health & welfare and retirement plans, prepare and submit payment requests

Interact with employee benefit plan administrators addressing issues and questions

Prepare the monthly accruals for retirement and health & welfare contributions, entries for other plan expenses as needed, and monthly reconciliation of the balance sheet accounts

Assist in commission and incentive calculations and processing

Participate in the annual financial and benefit plan audits

Provide key support for annual compliance reporting

Maintain internal software programs and database used for reporting

Act as backup to the Payroll Manager

Produce ad hoc reporting as needed

Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned

Qualifications:
2-3 years of experience working with payroll or benefits systems/data or a bachelor’s degree in accounting/ finance

Display high standards of integrity and ethical business practice standards including the ability to be very discreet in the handling of confidential information

Detail-oriented with the ability to follow through, solve problems, and meet deadlines

Able to produce accurate results in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

Advanced knowledge of Excel and the ability to work comfortably with other programs in Microsoft Office and G-Suite products

Experience with Oracle Fusion GL and/or Ceridian Dayforce is a plus
